2007 Youth of the Year: Jasmine

Jasmine has transcended a significant number of obstacles en route to her current status as a senior at Oakland’s McClymonds High School where she carries a 3.14 GPA. She is captain of the McClymonds Mock Trial Team where she earned recognition as Outstanding Defense Attorney and Honorable Mention for Best Trial Attorney during her junior year. She has interned with the Alameda County District Attorney’s office and would someday like to become a D.A.; opening her own practice is also being considered. To continue her assent, Jasmine is leaning toward Howard University in Washington, DC and a law major.

Jasmine has been a BGCO student-member (Leonard J. Meltzer Branch) for the past 4 years. She is an active member of the Junior Staff and is active as Vice President of the Keystone Club - BGCO’s primary leadership development vehicle for teens. Having attended the National Keystone Conference in Washington, DC last August, Jasmine reported that “The Keystone Conference was a new experience for me. It was the first time I was away from home for such a long time. It really gave me a chance to see that there is life outside of Oakland and that there are a lot of other positive young people.”

Jasmine gives back through her Jr. Staff work which includes tutoring younger Club members. She also tutors at nearby schools.
