John Mascali | President & CEO of BGCO
John Mascali's career has seamlessly traversed both the for-profit and nonprofit realms. In 2006, he ventured into the world of entrepreneurship becoming a Burger King Franchisee, initially owning five locations in the East Bay, including two in Alameda and one in Oakland. Over the ensuing 15 years, John's role expanded exponentially, eventually elevating him to the position of COO and President of one of the largest franchise organizations within the Burger King system encompassing 150 Burger Kings, Chili's restaurants, and Black Bear Diners, across ten states. Notably, John adeptly steered these establishments and their 5,000 employees through the challenges posed by the pandemic, emerging on the other side without staff layoffs while substantially enhancing profitability.
Beyond his for-profit endeavors, John has embraced a passion for community service, assuming the presidency of multiple 501c3 organizations. Notably, he served three terms as the President of the FBI Citizens Academy, furthering its mission. In addition, he was a two Term President of Mustang Soccer, an organization boasting the largest youth membership in California and is in his 20th term as President of a large HOA with real estate valued at over $800 million.
For John, the BGCO opportunity is an honor:
"I am honored and enthusiastic about the privilege to lead this extraordinary organization. Drawing from the legacy of the Club over its 80 years in Oakland and the experience of the Team, my mission will be to create a brighter future wherein every child is given the support and resources to not just succeed but to truly thrive."
Born in Oakland and raised in the South Bay, John attended Santa Clara University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Economics. Today, he resides in the East Bay with his wife, Carol, of 32 years and they have two daughters, Madison and Mackinsey. Beyond his professional and philanthropic pursuits, John finds solace and adventure in sailing, flying, and cherishing moments with friends and family.
